In the Spirit, Not the Flesh

Romans 8:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Romans 8 in context

Scripture Focus

9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Romans 8:9

Biblical Context

Romans 8:9 declares a distinction between living in the flesh and living in the Spirit, asserting that those with the Spirit of God dwelling in them belong to Christ.

Neville's Inner Vision

Imagine the chapter as a map of your inner state. 'Not in the flesh but in the Spirit' means you move from a consciousness that identifies with limitation to a consciousness alive with God. The Spirit of God dwelling in you is not a distant event but a present sensation of I AM, your own awareness welcoming divine life into every thought, feeling, and breath. When you answer with an inner yes, the sense of a separate, mortal self softens; the 'flesh' shrinks to a vehicle for experience while Spirit remains the sovereign actor. If you feel you have not the Spirit of Christ, recognize that you have merely believed you are apart from this indwelling; that belief can be revised. The verse invites you to revise your identity until you can say, I am one with the Spirit that God is, and therefore I belong to Him. In that act of inner recognition, your life aligns with divine presence, and the outward world reflects that inward truth.

Practice This Now

Assume the I AM is dwelling in you right now. Revise any sense of lack by declaring, 'The Spirit of God dwells in me,' until that presence feels real in your body.
