Inner Mortification, Living Spirit

Romans 8:12-13 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Romans 8 in context

Scripture Focus

12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Romans 8:12-13

Biblical Context

Paul says we are not compelled to live after the flesh; if we yield to the Spirit, the deeds of the body are mortified and life flows.

Neville's Inner Vision

Romans 8:12–13 whispers that you owe nothing to the old flesh; the I AM within you is the true master. The Spirit is not an external force but the life of consciousness that you already are. To mortify the deeds of the body is to starve the old habits of attention by yielding to a higher state of being. If you live by the flesh you invite decay; if you yield to the Spirit, life becomes your constant reality. Remember Neville's law: imagination creates; therefore, imagine yourself now drawing your energy from the inner light, and inhabit that state until it feels natural. See yourself choosing purity, integrity, and obedience to the inner I AM, not as an effort but as the current of your consciousness. The old patterns drop away as you persist in this inner posture; holiness is not a rule but a renewal of perception. You are a new creation here and now, not later; your outward acts follow your inward state, and the life of the Spirit gives you breath and will.

Practice This Now

Practice: In a quiet moment, declare the inner state I am the I AM; through the Spirit I mortify the deeds of the body and live now. Feel that presence in your chest and carry the feeling into your day.
