6But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 7:6

Biblical Context

Romans 7:6 declares that we are delivered from the old law that held us. We are to serve in the newness of spirit, not the oldness of the letter.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within this verse, the law you hear is not a set of external rules but the habit of my former self, a state of consciousness that kept me bound to obligation. The 'letter' represents outward performance; the 'newness of spirit' is the living awareness that I am the I AM, the inner presence that animates every moment. When I believe I am delivered, I do not escape responsibility; I enter a condition in which service arises from freedom, not fear. My true work is the activity of my inner life—imagination, perception, and state of being—through which reality unfolds. The moment I rest in this inner state and claim the I AM as my governing reality, the old mechanism loses its grip. I do not strive to obey; I align with the Spirit and let all expression flow from that energy. Thus, the external law is superseded by the inner sovereignty of my consciousness, and my world shifts in response to my assumed identity as one who serves in spirit.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, assume the I AM as your governing reality, and declare, 'I am delivered from the law; I serve in the newness of Spirit.' Feel the freedom of this inner state and let it inform your next choice today.
