Inner Will, Action Realized

Romans 7:18-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Romans 7 in context

Scripture Focus

18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Romans 7:18-19

Biblical Context

Romans 7:18-19 presents the paradox: in me, there is a will to do good, but I cannot perform it. The result is a struggle between I want to act rightly and my actual behavior.

Neville's Inner Vision

All the words of the Apostle ring true for the inner reader: the flesh harbors no good thing, yet the will is present. The key is that the 'I' making the observation is your higher self, the I AM awareness that never changes. The feeling of inability arises from identifying with a state of consciousness that believes in separation. When you interpret 'how to perform' as a question of inner revision, you discover that the act you seek is already formed in your inner atmosphere. Imagination is the machinery by which reality is rearranged; by assuming the end, you invite it into the present. Do not condemn the flesh; simply refuse to live from its limitations. Repeat: I am the I AM; the good I intend is done in me now. The struggle ends not by labor but by shifting state. In such a shift, the good you would do flows through you as the natural expression of the inner state you now persist in.

Practice This Now

Practice: in a quiet moment, imagine one scene where you have already done the good you desire; feel the inner state of completion as if it were now. Then affirm, I am the I AM, and I now dwell in the end-state until it feels real.
