The passage portrays a tendency toward swift, violent action and the misery that follows as the natural outcome of those pathways.
Neville's Inner Vision
Where Romans 3:15-16 speaks of feet swift to shed blood and the misery that follows, I hear it as the statement of a mind under the spell of separation. These 'feet' are not others’ feet but the quick movements of thought and judgment that rush to condemn, to strike, to prove another’s fault. In truth, every act of 'destruction' begins in the inner world of belief, a posture of fear and grievance that walks its own dark road until misery is the inevitable companion. The remedy is not to argue with the world but to discover the I AM behind the thoughts, the unchanging awareness that can revise any impression. When you identify with the I AM, you rewrite the map: you no longer follow the path of destruction; you create a new way by imagining mercy, courage, and unity. The law of your consciousness promises that what you accept inwardly becomes outward habit; thus, you enter a different lineage of feet, one that travels toward healing rather than harm.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the I AM is the observer of your mind; revise any impulse to harm by imagining a compassionate alternative, then feel the shift in your chest as mercy rises.
