The Higher Debt of Love

Romans 13:7-8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Romans 13 in context

Scripture Focus

7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:7-8

Biblical Context

Render to duties outwardly, but the deeper debt is love. When love governs your thoughts toward others, you fulfill the law.

Neville's Inner Vision

Observe that Romans 13:7-8 places every debt in the light of consciousness. The 'dues'—tribute, custom, fear, honour—appear as the outer texture of life, yet they are invitations to awaken to a single inner currency: love. In me, the I AM, there is a decision: I owe no man anything but love. Not for neglecting obligations, but for converting every interaction into the living feeling of goodwill. When I assume the feeling 'I love as God loves,' the impression of others softens; I see the other as a manifestation of my own one reality, and thus the outer world rearranges to reflect that inward state. The law is fulfilled not by external compliance but by the consistency of inner regard. The fear and obligation dissolve into a continuous rhythm of loving-kindness; honor and duty become signs that I am present as the I AM in every moment. The more I practice this inner debt paid in love, the more the outer world aligns with the harmony of God within me.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: I owe no one anything but love. Throughout the day, when a duty or irritation arises, revise it by affirming I am loving, and feel the warmth of love circulating toward the other.
