Biblical Context
Romans 11:8 speaks of a 'spirit of slumber' given so they cannot see or hear, a condition described outwardly but understood inwardly. It invites us to examine how inner states shape perception in our own life.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville's ear, the 'they' in this verse is the state of consciousness you wear in the moment. The 'spirit of slumber' is not a distant judgment but a habit of mind that makes you forget your connection with the I AM. Eyes that should see and ears that should hear are faculties of awareness; when you identify with lack or separation, those faculties dim. The line 'unto this day' marks a present condition you can shift by a simple change of assumption. Do not battle the outer world; revise the inner premise to feel and claim unity with God as your indwelling reality. Imagine that you are already awake to truth, and let the feeling of wholeness enter your chest and spine. As you dwell in that I AM awareness, perception rises, ideas of limitation dissolve, and the world around you adjusts to reflect your renewed inner sight. Remember: scripture is the law of mind, and your imagination writes the new scene. You are the observer, and imagination is the instrument by which you awaken.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the inner state of wakefulness now. Repeat 'I AM awake to truth' while feeling your inner sight open and your hearing return.
