Lament of the Inner City

Revelation 18:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Revelation 18 in context

Scripture Focus

9And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
Revelation 18:9-10

Biblical Context

Earthly rulers mourn Babylon's fall and distance themselves in fear as judgment approaches. The scene points to an inner reckoning within your own consciousness.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within this vision, the 'kings of the earth' are the ruling thoughts you tolerate; 'Babylon' stands for a beloved but false system you have trusted. When you witness the smoke of her burning, you witness the dissolution of those old stories. Their lament and the distance they keep reveal the mind's reluctance to face the consequence of its dream; yet the hour of judgment is not punishment but a decisive turning point in consciousness. The moment you stop worshiping separation and stop chasing external power, you become the observer who can rewrite the scene. The inner city is not a ruined metropolis but a purified center of awareness where your true authority resides. The fire of judgment is simply a refining flame that removes false idols and reveals the I AM. As you align with that I AM, you discover that the kingdom you seek is already established within you in this present now—a shift as sudden as a single breath.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the feeling that the old Babylon has dissolved; you now rule from the inner city with I AM awareness. Repeat I AM statements until you feel a new order pervading your sense of self.
