Revelation 18:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse depicts the rulers of the earth lamenting as the symbol of their wealth-based power burns, signaling the fall of a corrupt system built on luxury and idolatry.
Neville's Inner Vision
Revelation 18:9 speaks of the kings of the earth lamenting as the smoke of Babylon’s burning ascends. In Neville’s register, these kings are not distant rulers but inner states of consciousness that have yoked themselves to wealth, luxurious indulgence, and outward power. The 'city' they served—its fornication and delicious living—represents a belief in security grounded in externals. When the outer image begins to burn away, the inner dispositions feel the loss and cry out in lament; the smoke is the visible sign that the old assumption is dissolving. Yet the scene is not external destruction but the rearrangement of consciousness. The true kingdom is not a market or throne but the I AM within, the awareness that remains unmoved as forms melt. To live this, dwell in the sense "I AM" as your continuous wealth, and let the feeling of security arise from that inner state rather than from people or riches. The kings’ mourning thus becomes a cue to revise: you are the governor of your inner realm, and the kingdom follows from within.
Practice This Now
Assume the feeling that I AM is your true wealth. Rest in that inner security and notice how external power, wealth, or approval dissolves as you revise your sense of self to the I AM.
