Biblical Context
Revelation 18:23 depicts an inner state where the light of awareness goes out and the inner voice of union is silenced, due to attachment to worldly power and deceptive enchantments. It portrays a collective deception by sorceries that distract from true worship.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this line I hear the psyche’s candle dimming when you identify with outer power and merchants of the earth, forgetting the I AM. The 'light of a candle' is your inner illumination—the awareness that witnesses, not the ego’s theater. When you worship through images of success, status, or ritual, you cloak that light, and the 'voice of the bridegroom and the bride'—the inner invitation to unification and creative, divine relation—falls silent. The sorceries are the beliefs that keep you hypnotized by appearances, turning every nation into a mirror of confusion. Yet this ruin is never more than a dream of separation. The remedy is not denial of the world but a return to the one living I AM within, the awareness that imagines and experiences reality. Stand in the assumption that you are the source of light, and rehearse the wedding of your inner masculine and feminine in consciousness. When you do, the light returns and the inner voice speaks again, guiding every decision as a reflection of your true nature.
Practice This Now
Assume the inner light is always lit; revise any sense of darkness by listening for the inner bridegroom and bride within, and feel the I AM guiding you in every moment.
