Revelation 13:11-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
Revelation 13:11-18

Biblical Context

Revelation 13:11-18 describes a second beast that compels worship of the first through wonders, an image, and a mark. It invites discernment, showing that the true battle is within state of consciousness.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here, the 'second beast' is a state of consciousness arising from the earth—an at first gentle belief that seeks to control life through worship of an external image. It speaks like a lamb but moves with a dragon’s cunning, using wonders to persuade the earth to bow to the first beast. The 'image' is a projected belief that life depends on appearances, and the 'mark' is the fixed idea that you are identified by name, commerce, or social order. The power it wields is the power of suggestion in your own mind, convincing you that you must be this or do that to be alive. The wisdom offered is not outer conquest but inner discernment: count the beast’s number, that is, recognize the numerical character of the belief—its claim to fix you in separation. Remember that the I AM is the only reality; imagination can either bind or release. When you revise, and assume a new state of I AM, you feel it in the center of your chest, and the loud voice of the dragon subsides as your inner sight returns to the sovereign presence within.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe into the chest, and assume the feeling 'I AM' as the ruling state. Revision: gently acknowledge any external image or mark as a mental construct, and feel the I AM dissolving it, here and now.
