Inner Fire and Divine Light
Psalms 97:3-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Psalms 97 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse describes divine presence going before with fire to burn up enemies, and lightnings enlightening the world, causing the earth to tremble.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the fire going before you as the I AM, the steadfast awareness that stands ahead of every thought, belief, and image you have entertained about yourself. That fire burns up the inner enemies—fear, doubt, lack—those temporary states that have claimed to govern your life. It is not punishment; it is awakening, a shifting of your inner disposition from limitation to plenitude. The lightnings are moments of sudden insight that flash through your mind, validating the truth that you are the living presence of God, here and now. As you dwell in that I AM, your inner seeing is clarified; old interpretations dissolve, and a new arrangement of reality begins to glow into existence. The earth you “see” is but the mirror of your consciousness; when your consciousness is lit by this divine fire and lightning, conditions exteriorly begin to respond in kind, aligning with the state you hold. This Psalm is therefore not a threat of judgment but a description of your own inner mechanism: you go before yourself with invincible awareness, and the world trembles at the emergence of your true self.
Practice This Now
Imaginatively, assume the I AM goes before you now, erasing limitation and rewriting your sense of self. Feel the fire burn away doubt as a sudden flash of light illuminates your path.
