Inner Refuge: The LORD Defense

Psalms 94:16-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 94 in context

Scripture Focus

16Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
17Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
18When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.
19In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
20Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
22But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
23And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.
Psalms 94:16-23

Biblical Context

The psalmist asks who will defend the righteous. With the LORD as helper, the soul is lifted from silence, mercy sustains, and the mind finds comfort as God overturns evil.

Neville's Inner Vision

See the evildoers not as distant enemies but as the old fearful thoughts that threaten your peace. The cry, Unless the LORD had been my help, is the coaching of your present consciousness, naming the condition under which you live when you forget your I AM. When you feel your footing slip, recall that mercy is the sustaining energy of awareness and that you are held by a divine upholding. The multitude of thoughts within you become your ally when you align them with the truth that God is your rock of refuge. Do not allow the throne of iniquity to legislate in your inner court; through inner acknowledgment of the Lord's defense, condemnation and harm lose their power. Your defense is the living presence of God within you, and as you rest in that awareness, the external storms fade and the inner self is cut free from its own bondage. In this light, the Lord acts as conqueror, redeeming your inner landscape and restoring true peace.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume I AM as your defender now. Silently affirm that God is my defense, I am held up by mercy, and my thoughts are comforts that lead to peace, then feel the truth as real.
