Fearless Shield Within You

Psalms 91:5-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 91 in context

Scripture Focus

5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psalms 91:5-6

Biblical Context

The verses invite fearless trust in God's protective presence, presenting safety as a present inner reality rather than a distant fear-free condition. The call is to rest in the I AM and let divine provision dominate inner life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the terror by night as an inner weather pattern, the arrow by day as a thought-flash in the mind. The psalm is not asking you to fear less, but to recognize you are not the fearer; you are the I AM, the aware watcher who never leaves your side. When you sense danger, you are identifying with a state of fear. Draw your attention back to the I AM and revise the state: declare, 'I am presence,' and let that consciousness dissolve the image of threat. The world you see is your imagination, and imagination obeys your commands. So you may rely on Providence by aligning with the inner sovereignty where God abides. In that precinct, fear loses its grip, the night is only a condition of awareness, and the day’s arrows are but thoughts passing through an awakened mind. Your protection is not earned from without but invoked from within as the unassailable reality of your being.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, breathe, and in your mind repeat 'I AM' until you feel the presence as you, surrounding you with a luminous shield. Then revise any fear by declaring 'I am not afraid, for I dwell in Providence' and let the feeling of safety settle into your body.
