Biblical Context
God turns man toward destruction and bids him return. In God's sight, a thousand years are as yesterday, reminding us that true life occurs in an inner state of awareness.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this psalm, God does not threaten from without; he reveals that you are always returning to a state you imagine. 'Thou turnest man to destruction' points to the inner turning from a worn identity toward the truth you already are. When it says, 'Return, ye children of men,' it is the I AM inviting you to re-enter your original state, the consciousness that never died but forgot itself. The line about a thousand years being as yesterday shows the pliable tempo of time in consciousness. What matters is not clock time but your present imaginative conviction. In your inner theatre, yesterday can drop away and a fresh sense of life rises as if waking from a long sleep. The night watch becomes a symbol for the quiet, watchful I AM that never sleeps, always aware of your assumed state. If you dwell there, your life will catch up to your inner posture, and you will discover that the destruction spoken of is simply an old self dissolving as you align with your true I AM.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe, and assume the feeling of your safer, renewed self as if you have already returned to your original I AM state. Let this revised state be your present reality before sleep, and observe the days to follow aligning with it.
