Read Psalms 87 in context

Scripture Focus

3Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
4I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.
Psalms 87:3-4

Biblical Context

It proclaims the city of God as a glorious inner state. It hints that all nations arise from the soul’s conscious birth in that state.

Neville's Inner Vision

Glorious things spoken of thee, O city of God, are not spoken of as facts in the external world, but as the wondrous qualities of your inner awareness. When you know the I AM, you recognize that the city of God already resides within you, a radiant capital of consciousness. The list of nations—Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, Ethiopia—are not distant empires; they are mental conditions or memories that arise in the mind. To those who know me means to those who know the I AM, the ever-present Power within. This man was born there declares that you were born into this inner city before any history or circumstance; birth here is not physical lineage but consciousness itself. Thus, the external world’s divisions and struggles reflect nothing but your inner attitudes. Embrace the truth that the Presence of God is your natural state, and every seeming obstacle is a signpost pointing to your own awakening within. You are the city, you are the birth, you are the glory spoken of in this psalm.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the feeling, I am the city of God now. Let doubt depart and sense the inner brightness as your present reality.
