Zion's Inner Foundation
Psalms 87:1-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Psalms 87 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage states Zion's foundation lies in sacred inner states; God loves Zion's gates, and the birth of the self within Zion is established by the Highest.
Neville's Inner Vision
Zion here is your inner habitation, the state of consciousness wherein I AM dwells. The 'holy mountains' are the steadfast faculties of awareness upon which all experience rests. To say the LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob is to affirm that divine attention favors the open gates of awareness—where you acknowledge and permit the reality of God to enter, rather than clinging to outer appearances. Glorious things spoken of thee, O city of God, indicate that when you dwell in Zion, your life speaks of divine qualities: faith, love, power, and fulfillment. The line about mentioning Rahab and Babylon to them that know me reveals that the world of sensation is a dream chosen by the I AM to reveal your inner birth in Zion. Rahab and Babylon symbolize old conditions of fear; Philistia, Tyre, and Ethiopia represent facets of the psyche. Yet Zion’s birth is the true event: This man was born in her; the Highest himself shall establish her. Your true self—the I AM—will uphold Zion in consciousness.
Practice This Now
Assume you are already born in Zion; feel the gates of awareness opening to divine presence, and rest in the assurance that the Highest establishes Zion within your mind.
