I hear the psalm as a map of the inner man, where strength rises in waves as I dwell in Zion—the inner temple of awareness. To appear before God is to recognize what I have become in imagination, for every move inside reveals my state of consciousness. When I say hear my prayer, I am inviting the I AM to awaken within me and to answer not from external circumstance but from the still, listening presence inside. Behold, our shield becomes the realization that the I AM stands as a shield of perception, guarding me from illusion. I behold the face of the anointed—the Christ within—my own awakened consciousness shining through. A day in thy courts is better than a thousand; this is the treasure of inner life, for life in the inner courts is wealth beyond measure. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God—humble service in consciousness—than dwell in the tents of wickedness, which I now see as ignorance. This inner court life is active and intentional: a continual practice of imagining and feeling the presence of God until it becomes my lived reality.
