Biblical Context
The psalm states that God is a sun and shield, grants grace and glory to those who walk upright, and blesses those who trust in Him.
Neville's Inner Vision
Imagine the Lord as your I AM, the inner sun that lights every corner of your mind and the shield that guards your creative center from doubt. When the psalm speaks of grace and glory, it is naming the blessed conditions of consciousness that arise when you dwell in the feeling that you are one with the I AM. To 'walk uprightly' is not a moral drill but an inner posture: a steady alignment with the truth of your divine nature. Trusting in the Lord of hosts is trusting the law of your own thinking—that what you persistently hold in attention becomes your experienced world. No good thing will be withheld from such a heart, for nothing is withheld from God in you. Therefore, ask yourself what state you are inhabiting: if you awaken to the truth that you are already the I AM enjoying grace and glory, your world mirrors that belief. The light and protection described are not external favors but the inward order your imagination creates when it rests in the One.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and, feeling the I AM within, revise any sense of lack by affirming, 'I am the I AM; grace and glory flow to me now; no good thing is withheld from me because I walk upright in consciousness.' Then linger in the feeling of being illuminated and protected for a few minutes.
