Biblical Context
The psalm expresses that if Israel had hearkened to God and walked in His ways, their enemies would have been subdued.
Neville's Inner Vision
God's voice is not distant but the I AM within you, the compass by which you measure your experience. When you imagine yourself hearkening to that inner law, you align your state of consciousness with the divine order, and the appearance of struggle collapses. The verse speaks of a people who would have subdued their enemies by obedience; in Neville’s terms, obedience is simply the steady trust that the inner guide has already settled your path. To 'walk in my ways' is to listen for the I AM’s direction in every thought, feeling, and choice, and to act as though its victory is already true. As you hold this inner stance, imagined foes dissolve because you withdraw belief from limitation and invest it in the truth of unity with God. Your outer circumstances begin to move in harmony with your inner harmony. The moment you refuse to entertain a rival sense of self, you reverse the momentum of attack and invite a quiet, undefeatable sense of blessing to move through your life.
Practice This Now
Practice: Sit quietly and assume the inner stance of one who has hearkened to the I AM within; repeat, 'I hear the I AM; I am guided.' Then feel that victory is already present and let that feeling linger for a few breaths.
