Inner Covenant: Hope in God

Psalms 78:7-8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 78 in context

Scripture Focus

7That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
Psalms 78:7-8

Biblical Context

The passage calls one to set hope in God, remember His works, and keep His commandments; unlike their fathers, do not let your heart grow stubborn or your spirit waver.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the eyes of the heart, this Psalm is not a call to outer obedience alone, but a summons to awaken a steadfast inner state. The 'fathers' are within you—old memories and habits that resist trusting the unseen order of your imagination. To set your hope in God is to align your entire consciousness with the I AM that you are, the living presence that knows all works are already done in principle. When you remember His works and choose to keep His commandments, you are consenting to a law written in your own heart: fidelity, trust, and the willingness to act from that inner certainty. The rebellious spirit is simply a resistance to this inner alignment; it says, 'not now,' even while the truth is present as potential. Your practice is to dwell in the feeling that the covenant is complete, that the heart is aright, and the spirit is stedfast with God. Let that inner condition guide your steps, and the outward world will rearrange to reflect it.

Practice This Now

Practice: close your eyes, assume the feeling 'I am steadfast in God,' and dwell there until it feels natural; then revise a memory of rebellion by imagining you already keeping His commandments.
