Inner Sanctuary Psalms 73:17-20

Psalms 73:17-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 73 in context

Scripture Focus

17Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
18Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
19How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
20As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
Psalms 73:17-20

Biblical Context

The psalmist finds understanding only after stepping into God's sanctuary. The wicked are seen as slipping and destroyed, a dream that ends when the Lord awakens.

Neville's Inner Vision

When I view this Psalm through the I AM, the sanctuary is not a distant temple but the living awareness within. The 'end' of the wicked is the collapse of a false state of mind you once entertained; they slip in slippery places because you believed in a reality outside consciousness. In the sanctuary, ground is thought; you may revise it. As you dwell in the I AM, the desolate fear dissolves and the image you despise loses power, for you no longer identify with it. Destruction becomes the clearing away of old pictures, not punishment. The moment you awaken to your true nature, the dream dissolves into light and the image is seen for what it is—a mere creature of your imagination. God is within, and the sanctuary you seek is the consciousness you already are, ready to be exercised by choice, revision, and love.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and rest in the I AM. Rehearse, for 2–3 minutes, that you are safely grounded in the sanctuary within; then revise a troubling scene by affirming: 'I am awake in God now, and the dream of the wicked ends in this very moment.'
