Biblical Context
The psalmist pleads for mercy and deliverance from danger, asking God to hear quickly. He confesses trust in God's loving-kindness and redeeming power.
Neville's Inner Vision
Prayer is not seeking a distant God but a reorientation of your I AM toward the outcome you desire. When the psalmist speaks of being delivered from mire, deep waters, and the pit, he names internal states of fear, heaviness, and threat. These forces do not come from a world apart; they arise as movements within your own consciousness. The plea for mercy and the appeal to tender mercies are invitations to awaken to the one Presence that is always hearing—your own awareness. The 'acceptable time' is the instant you refuse identification with lack and choose to inhabit the truth of your being. As you recognize the loving-kindness of the inner God, your inner face turns toward you, and the sense of danger recedes. Salvation becomes practical and immediate: your awareness expands, the mind’s waters recede, and you are drawn to a shore of peace. The mouth that would shut you out is the doorway to release when you turn to the I AM with unwavering faith.
Practice This Now
Practice: close your eyes, declare 'I AM,' and feel the inward turn toward you. Imagine the mire loosening, waters receding, and the inner merciful presence drawing near.
