The Gate Inside
Psalms 69:12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Psalms 69 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse describes people at the gate speaking against the speaker, turning him into the song of the drunkards. It is the felt experience of public ridicule.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the gate as a state of consciousness rather than a place in the city. When they speak against me, what you hear is a movement of old beliefs within your own mind—the chorus of fears and identities you have allowed to define you. The line about being the song of the drunkards reveals you have identified with a melody that mocks your worth. But you are the I AM, the unchanging awareness that witnesses every thought. By shifting to that witness—refusing to identify with the voice of the crowd—you can revise the scene. Assume a new inner quality: certainty, love, and value that cannot be moved by outward words. Let that inner tone saturate your imagination until it feels real here and now. The gate then becomes a doorway through which you step into a remembered self that knows you are cherished, not cursed by others' remarks. Remember: your inner state creates the outer fact. Change the state, and the 'they' at the gate will recede, giving way to a scene that confirms your chosen I AM.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit, close your eyes, and assume the state I AM accepted; I AM loved. Feel it real until the inner chorus quiets and you hear the crowd reflecting your new state rather than your old fear.
