Inner Shield Psalm 64

Psalms 64:1-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 64 in context

Scripture Focus

1Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
3Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
4That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
5They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?
6They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
7But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
8So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
9And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
10The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
Psalms 64:1-10

Biblical Context

The psalmist pleads for protection from fear and covert plots; God counters by revealing the consequences of evil, and the righteous are promised joy and trust.

Neville's Inner Vision

All the outward threats in the psalm are states of consciousness in the inner man. When the psalmist says Hear my voice, O God, he is really naming the I AM that I am. The 'enemy' and the 'secret counsel of the wicked' are your own fears, doubts, and the covert habits of resistance within your mind. Their 'tongue like a sword' and 'bitter words' symbolize thoughts and words that cut at your sense of worth. Yet God 'shoots at them with an arrow'—not a violent event but a swift, piercing realization that exposes the illusion of threat. As you assent to that inner insight, the attack loosens and the mind turns its own weapon back on the false image. The righteous rejoice because alignment with the I AM makes fear think itself away. The final line invites you to see how the inner work changes the field: fear is transmuted into trust, and those who dwell in the upright heart glory in the revealed power of God within.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, declare 'I am the I AM,' and imagine a bright arrow of awareness piercing every whispered fear. Then rest in the feeling of protection as you revise doubt into trust, keeping that state as you move through the day.
