Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The psalmist remembers God on his bed and meditates in the night; because God has helped him, he rejoices under the shadow of His wings and follows after Him, upheld by His right hand.
Neville's Inner Vision
Remembering Thee upon my bed is not a memory of something past but a turning of my entire consciousness to the I AM. The 'night watches' are quiet opportunities to revise belief, to impress upon the subconscious the fact that God, the only Presence, is before and behind me. When I affirm that God has been my help, I step into the feeling of being protected by the shadow of wings, a metaphor for the surround of divine awareness. The phrase 'thy right hand upholdeth me' becomes the assurance that my own state of consciousness is upheld by the active strength of God within me, not by circumstance. 'My soul followeth hard after thee' signals a disciplined pursuit of Presence, a mental allegiance that refuses distraction and accepts reality as I imagine it. Thus, the events of the day respond to that inner alignment; the world concedes to the truth I have assumed in imagination. In this way, the Psalm becomes a manual for inward victory.
Practice This Now
In the next quiet moment, assume I remember Thee and feel the I AM presence upholding me; on your bed, sense the wings shadow and let your soul intently pursue that Presence.
