Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The psalmist declares God as his God, seeks Him early, and longs for His presence in a dry land. He praises, remembers, and trusts in God's helping hand and protection.
Neville's Inner Vision
From Neville's lens, this psalm becomes the inner map of consciousness. The dry land is the mind without awareness, and the cry 'O God, thou art my God' is the I AM affirming its own reality. When the soul thirsts, it does not seek water outside but a renewal of consciousness; to see thy power and thy glory is to witness the inner laws in operation—the imagination in action. The speaker's longing that lovingkindness is better than life becomes a statement that the present state of grace is more real than outward circumstance. 'My lips shall praise thee' becomes a daily act of self-support, a ritual of worship conducted within. 'In the shadow of thy wings' represents protection that comes when you rest in the assumption that you are kept by the I AM. Finally, 'my soul followeth hard after thee; thy right hand upholdeth me' describes the momentum of a renewed consciousness pursuing its divine end, buoyed by the assured presence of God as I AM.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit in stillness and assume the state of being kept by God; declare, 'Thou art my God' and feel the nourishment of His presence filling your mind. Let that sense of protection linger until it becomes your habitual awareness.
