Biblical Context

The psalm presents a person who remains before God forever, preserved by mercy and truth. He vows to praise and perform his duties daily.

Neville's Inner Vision

Psalm 61:7-8 speaks not of a distant place but of a present state of awareness. The one who abides forever is the I AM in you, remaining fixed in the Presence as you consciously assume it. To prepare mercy and truth is to ink your inner atmosphere with compassionate recognition and unshakable clarity; mercy softens every thought and fear, truth keeps its watch over your imagination so that no illusion can override your sense of being. When you hold this as your inner posture, you are preserved by the very condition of awareness that cannot be shaken by outward appearances. The vow to praise thy name forever is the living acknowledgment that the inner state is the law by which you measure life. Daily perform my vows becomes the discipline of returning to that state, again and again, until it becomes your automatic mood. Thus the psalm is a manual for inner transformation: you cultivate mercy and truth, sing from that consciousness, and your world adjusts to reflect the unwavering I AM you have chosen.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume you are already abiding in the I AM. Feel mercy and truth as living forces that preserve you, and declare, 'I will daily be that consciousness.'
