Biblical Context
The psalmist vows to dwell in God's presence forever and to trust in the shelter of divine protection. God has heard the vows and granted a heritage to those who fear Him.
Neville's Inner Vision
When you say 'I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever,' you are naming a state of consciousness, not a place on a map. The tabernacle becomes the spacious inner sanctuary where you, the I AM, rest in the warmth of your own awareness. The 'covert of thy wings' is the sense of being held by the unseen atmosphere of your being, where fear is melted by attentive, loving presence. The vows you feel as already heard are the intentions you plant in the quiet of mind; they build a lineage—the heritage of those who live in reverent relation to Life. The king in this psalm is your higher self, whose life is prolonged by Mercy and Truth, qualities awakened within you to sustain the state. Mercy grants compassionate seeing; Truth keeps you aligned with the reality you consciously affirm. By returning to this dwelling and honoring these qualities, you preserve and extend the psyche’s vitality, allowing generations of consciousness to rise from the sustained act of dwelling in God.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, take a slow breath, and declare: I am abiding in the tabernacle of the I AM now. Feel the shelter of Mercy and Truth preserving me as I commit to this inner dwelling.
