Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Plain sense: the speaker waits in strength for God's defense, trusting mercy over vengeance; the aim is safety and peace, not the killing of enemies, with enemies scattered by divine power.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice how 'Because of his strength will I wait upon thee' signals the inner posture of the I AM: I am strong because I am God-conscious, and so I wait in that awareness. The 'God of my mercy shall prevent me' is the mercy within that moves before outward life, arranging circumstances to reveal my true desire. Enemies in this psalm represent restless thoughts and opposing conditions in my mind; when I insist on the reality of my unity with God, these powers are dispersed by the light of consciousness. To 'see my desire upon mine enemies' is to perceive that my inner longing for liberty has already shaped the events of my life; imagination acts on the condition until it becomes form. 'Slay them not' invites restraint—the refusal to feed the sense of injury with further negativity—and the power to scatter by thy hand becomes the gentle rearrangement of life. In this, God is our shield, and the kingdom within holds steady, proving that all opposition dissolves when I awaken to I AM.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: I close my eyes, breathe into the I AM, and affirm 'I am defended by God.' Then I envision the forces opposing me being scattered and my desired outcome appearing as already real in my inner vision.
