Biblical Context
Psalm 59:11-12 speaks of withholding revenge and letting divine power scatter danger. It shows that the real concern is the prideful, lying speech that arises within.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of this psalm as your inner courtroom. The command not to slay them outwardly is a directive to spare the old story that you are at odds with; the 'they' are not out there but within you as thoughts that claim you. The sin of their mouth and the lying lips you hear are the pictures of misbelief you have fed with attention. When you awaken to I AM—the awareness that you are the author of your experience—the sword becomes the power of attention, and to scatter them by thy power is to dissolve those false narratives by shifting your focus into the steady presence of God within. Bring them down, O Lord our shield, is the recognition that your shield is not a circumstance but consciousness itself—your own invincible state. You do not rebuke others; you revise the story you have accepted as true. The outward scene reflects your inner state; change the state, and the scene changes. The judgment you fear dissolves when you stand in the certainty that you are the I AM, protected by the divine shield of awareness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, breathe, and affirm 'I AM the shield of God’s awareness protecting my life.' Visualize the old words dissolving into light as your inner space remains serene.
