Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The psalm speaks of inward wickedness and deceit, showing that hostile thoughts and lies begin in the heart and become outward harm. It suggests that those who lie and poison others are already estranged from truth in their innermost being.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this psalm you are invited to see that 'they' are not distant enemies but a state of consciousness you may entertain. When it declares 'in heart ye work wickedness,' it points to the inner movement by which you weigh outcomes, justify harm, and give birth to action. The wicked are described as estranged from the womb, going astray as soon as they are born because they cling to a separated self that thinks it must dominate. Their speech becomes lies because it flows from fear rather than truth, and their 'poison' mirrors a serpent’s venom—present, then deadly to trust. The deaf adder that stops its ear is your mind’s refusal to hear the I AM within—your awareness that all is one and that you choose your experience by inner consent. The cure is to reverse that pattern in imagination: declare, I AM the ground of all being; truth, love, and harmony are already here in me, and I dwell in them to create a world free from deceit. As you revise your inner state, the outer world softens and the poison loses its force.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: Assume the I AM as your unchanging ground and feel the truth of unity now. For five minutes, revise a troubling grievance by repeating softly, I AM the truth in this moment; my thoughts and words are aligned with love, and I release every judgment.
