The psalm expresses a resolved inner state that worships God, awakens inner powers, and proclaims mercy and truth, yielding exaltation of God in every aspect of life.
Neville's Inner Vision
Enter the verse as a door to your inner life. My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Here, fixedness is not stubbornness but a dwellable state of awareness that refuses to roam with the changing moods of fear, doubt, or circumstance. Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. The inner faculties—glory, instrument of memory and imagination—are invited to rise at dawn within you. When you awake early, you choose the first thought of the day as your instrument for singing your truth. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations. Your inner state reaches outward as your speech, your conduct, your creations. For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. The mercy and truth you affirm become the weather of your world, dissolving fear into gratitude and guiding your acts toward mercy and fidelity. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. Place your awareness so high within that every experience reflects your inner grandeur.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume the feeling of the fixed heart now. Close your eyes, repeat, My heart is fixed in God, until the sensation of unwavering calm fills you; then let that mood guide your next gesture, word, and choice.
