Biblical Context
The psalmist faces fear and threats but chooses to trust in God, declaring unwavering confidence that God is for him and that he will not be afraid, even as thoughts and enemies loom.
Neville's Inner Vision
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. I awaken to the truth that fear is a state of mind, not a fact. In God I will praise his word, and in God I have put my trust; I refuse to fear what flesh can do unto me, for the flesh is only a appearing in the light of the I AM. Every day they wrest my words: these are thoughts in the universal mind, moving against faith. They gather themselves, they hide themselves, they mark my steps—yet these are but movements within consciousness waiting for my decision. Shall they escape by iniquity? In thine anger cast down the people, O God: I reinterpret as the energy of wrong assumptions dissolving in the light of divine love. Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? My tears are notes of recall, reminders that I am waking to the memory that God is for me. When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for the I AM within me is for me. In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word. In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the feeling: I am safe, God is for me; envision the I AM surrounding you with light. When fear arises, revise to 'In God I trust' and feel it real, right now.
