Biblical Context
Psalm 49:16-19 warns that riches and the glory of the rich cannot accompany them in death; true value lies in the inner state we inhabit, which endures beyond outward circumstances.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the language of inner seeing, the Psalm declares a spiritual fact: the man who boasts in wealth is counting on a fortune that dies with the body, yet your real life is the state of consciousness you inhabit. Wealth and praise are but outward expressions of an inward disposition. If you believe your worth is tied to possessions, you contract with impermanence; if, instead, you assume the feeling of constant sufficiency, your life becomes a living proof of the I AM. Your "glory" is the image you hold about yourself, the inner light by which you exist. When you revise this self-concept to the conviction that you are the source of all wealth—beyond birth and death—your external world shifts to reflect that inner wealth. The dead cannot carry anything away, but the living can be carried by the awareness they worship. Align your mind with the truth that you are the inner kingdom, not the outward display, and you will see abundance in form follow from that state.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and quietly assume the state 'I am the wealth that death cannot touch.' Feel the truth of that identification; in this feeling, revise your sense of self and let the sensation of abundance fill you now.
