Psalms 49:10-11 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 49 in context

Scripture Focus

10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Psalms 49:10-11

Biblical Context

The psalm observes that even wise people die and leave their wealth behind. It also warns that those who boast of houses and names are chasing a lasting illusion.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that Psalm 49 is not about earthly economy but about the inner currency of consciousness. In Neville’s terms, death signals the collapse of a false self that identifies with wealth, status, and land. The wise man, the fool, and the brutish all perish because none of those outward signs can endure in the realm of awareness. What endures is the I AM behind and within every form—the unchanging state that makes any house a symbol, not a definition. When you believe your value lies in possessions or in a name placed on a geographical boundary, you experience fear of loss and a craving to extend yourself through legacy. But the true interpretation invites a shift: wealth is an inner condition, a quality of consciousness that can be claimed now. By assuming the life of the I AM, you revoke the lie that you are a body-to-be-possessed or a name-to-be-remembered. Your wealth becomes the steady sense of existing, here and now, independent of appearances. As you hold that revision, your inner world reorganizes and outward circumstances begin to reflect the renewed state.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and revise the belief 'my wealth endures' to 'I am the I AM, enduring wealth now,' then feel that certainty saturating your present moment.
