Read Psalms 48 in context

Scripture Focus

1Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
2Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
3God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
4For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
Psalms 48:1-4

Biblical Context

The psalm proclaims God’s greatness in Zion, a holy city, and affirms that God is a refuge in its palaces, while worldly kings gather and pass by.

Neville's Inner Vision

Zion is not a geographical locus but the inner city of your consciousness, the state where the I AM dwells. To declare that the LORD is great in this inner view is to align your attention with the truth that you are protected by awareness itself. The mountain of holiness becomes the still point within, where refuge is felt rather than searched for. When you dwell in this inner citadel, you observe the outer threats—the fears, doubts, and demands of the world—assemble on the horizon and then recede as you refuse to grant them reality. God is known in her palaces—your mental sanctuaries where you affirm I AM, and thereby experience safety as your natural state. As your consciousness remains fixed in that sovereign presence, the outward scene begins to obey your inner order; tumult fades and a sense of place, power, and protection becomes your immediate experience. The psalm, then, is a guide to turning perception inward and wearing the crown of God’s abiding presence.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the inner city of God as your current state; rest in I AM. Feel the refuge rise within you, and let the kings pass by without drawing your attention.
