Psalms 46:8-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 46 in context

Scripture Focus

8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
Psalms 46:8-9

Biblical Context

Behold the works of the LORD refers to recognizing the inner acts of God within consciousness. Desolations of belief dissolve and internal wars cease as fear's weapons are broken.

Neville's Inner Vision

Behold the 'works of the LORD' as the activities of your own I AM—awareness shaping form through imagination. Desolations in the earth become the dissolving of stale beliefs that no longer serve your life. The Psalm's claim that He 'maketh wars to cease' is a statement of inner order: when you recognize that you are the ruler of your experience, the inner battles subside because belief-contraction yields to the light of consciousness. The breaking of the bow, the cutting of the spear, and the burning of the chariot are symbolic for the dismantling of fear, attack, and striving in your mind; the weapons that once threatened your peace are burned by the fire of understanding. Enduring peace settles at the ends of the earth and in every corner of your life as you dwell in the truth that you are one with God, not separated from It. To behold is to align your imagination with universal harmony, and to know that all outer desolations were only misperceptions corrected by awareness.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and declare, 'I AM the Lord of my inner world; desolations dissolve, wars within me cease, and all weapons are broken by the fire of awareness.' Then feel the calm as already true.
