Psalms 46:4-5

Biblical Context

Psalm 46:4-5 speaks of a life-giving river in the city of God, with God at its center, promising steadfastness and swift help.

Neville's Inner Vision

The psalm invites me to behold a river that makes glad the city of God, a living stream passing through the very center of my being. The city of God is not a place apart from my mind but a state of consciousness in which the I AM resides. When I affirm that God is in the midst of me, I am not unsettled by appearances; I am unmoved because awareness itself is unshakeable. The river is the current of life flowing through my thoughts, feelings, and decisions, nourishing every corner of my inner sanctuary. The promise that God shall help her 'right early' becomes a clause in my own experience: help arrives as a revision in feeling and in the understanding that I already possess the divine capacity to meet every circumstance. As I dwell in this awareness, the world responds—not by changing the outer scene first, but by shifting my inner state until stability and support become obvious. The more I identify with the I AM here, the more the inner river carries me to rest and victory.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, take a deep, slow breath, and assume the state: I AM in the midst of me. See a river flowing through the mind and feel the calm, confident presence steadily supporting every moment.
