Psalms 44:19-22 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 44 in context

Scripture Focus

19Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
21Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Psalms 44:19-22

Biblical Context

The psalm speaks of being overwhelmed by enemies and death-like fear, yet asserts God searches the heart and knows the secrets within; believers endure, feeling like sheep in a hostile field, until a deeper consciousness awakens.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, this psalm is a state of consciousness, not a historical record. The dragons and the shadow of death are the fears your mind rehearses when you forget the I AM within. When it says 'If we have forgotten the name of our God,' translate that as 'If I forget the I AM, I mistake my life for something separate.' Yet God knows the heart because He is the heart of my awareness. The line about being killed all the day and counted as sheep for the slaughter is the world’s dream of separation, dissolving as I center in conscious identity. The truth here is that the I AM within me is unassailable; by imagining and claiming this inner life, I revise the scene of struggle. Endurance arises not by fighting external forces, but by standing in the awareness that I am God-dweller, guided through every dragon by the living light of my own consciousness. The imagination creates the experience; I am not a victim but the awaken regarded as life itself.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, 'I AM within me now knows the secrets of my heart; I walk through the dragons by the light of God.' Then feel the inner life expanding as you rest in that present awareness.
