Psalms 42:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 42 in context

Scripture Focus

9I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
Psalms 42:9-10

Biblical Context

Verse 42:9-10 voices a cry of forgottenness and oppression. The shift comes by recognizing the rock within as God’s constant presence, not external relief.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, the cry 'Where is thy God?' is the ego demanding proof from appearances. The rock is your own I AM, the unmoved awareness that cannot be altered by sword or reproach. When you say 'God my rock,' you are not petitioning God to come; you are declaring your consciousness as the dwelling place of God. The sense of abandonment and the enemy's taunts are only movements of belief within you, not facts outside. God is not elsewhere; God is the perceiving I AM that is always present. By identifying with the rock within—your steadfast awareness—you dissolve the illusion of separation. The 'oppression' becomes a signal to revise the scene: remember your inner reality as God and stand firm in the truth that your consciousness remains intact, loving, and knowing. When you dwell as the rock, you are not waiting for God’s presence to return; you are reclaiming that presence as your own.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly and revise the line by declaring, 'I am the rock of God within me.' Then feel the unwavering presence settling into your bones as you practice the feeling of being watched over by your own I AM.
