Biblical Context
God desires inner openness and obedience, not external sacrifices; the speaker commits to doing God's will and proclaims righteousness and faithfulness to the assembly.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the eyes of faith, this psalm reveals that God does not care for ritual when the heart is not aligned with the living Law it bears. The ears opened belong to a consciousness ready to hear the living word within, not the noise of ritual. When I declare I come, I am naming the I AM in me as the author of my life, the volition that writes the book of my days. The volume of the book becomes the realization that every circumstance is a line in my inner scripture, urging me to do thy will. The law within my heart becomes the ruler by which I measure action; I delight to move in agreement with that inner decree, not to perform but to unfold. I affirm righteousness in the great congregation—the inner witnesses within—by speaking truth, declaring salvation, and revealing lovingkindness and truth as my natural state. Thus, the outer proclamation mirrors the inner settlement: I am already in harmony with divine will when I believe I am.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you already do the will of God, feeling the inner law active in your chest. Then speak one truth aloud as if the great assembly is listening, letting your heart know the obedience is real.
