Biblical Context
Patience in prayer leads to hearing and release from the pit; God lifts you up and sets your feet on a rock, inspiring a new song of praise.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this psalm, the LORD is the I AM within you, the awareness that hears the cry when you turn inward. You have wandered in a horrible pit of fear and limitation, but the inward touch of God inclines toward you, converting your cry into the first movement of a new state. The pit represents a belief that you are apart from your source; the rock is the unshakable consciousness that you are always present to yourself as awareness. By waiting patiently you are choosing to inhabit the inner stillness where imagination becomes law. God does not drag you by force; he steadies your goings by aligning your inner tempo with the truth of your being, so that your life takes its natural path on the rock of stable consciousness. The 'new song' is not merely words but a felt conversion—a praise that rises as you recognize your own thought can be rearranged by your I AM. As others witness the change, they are led to trust the LORD within you—trust in the inner power that moves your world. Blessed is the man whose trust remains there, for the divine works and thoughts toward you are beyond counting.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are already lifted by the I AM, feeling the firm rock beneath you. Then declare, 'I trust the LORD within; I am restored, and a new song rises in me today.'
