Psalms 40:1-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 40 in context

Scripture Focus

1I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psalms 40:1-3

Biblical Context

The psalm speaks of patiently waiting on the LORD, being lifted from a pit and clay, and planted on a rock where a new song of praise rises.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the Psalmist discovers that the 'Lord' is the I AM within, the consciousness that you are. Waiting patiently is not passivity but the decision to dwell in that awareness until God, the I AM, inclines toward your mind and hears your cry as a shift in vibration. The horrible pit and miry clay are not external places but states you have believed about yourself; when you refuse to dignify them with reality, the inward mover lifts you. He sets your feet upon a rock—an unshakable posture of awareness that cannot be moved by circumstance—and establishes your goings in that present state. Then a new song arises, not from effort but from the living state of praise expressing itself through you. Many shall see this trust and fear, and be drawn to the LORD through your example. The verse invites you to notice that the change is the result of inner alignment: trust is built by remaining in the assumed state of being heard and settled, rather than chasing after outcomes.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, 'I AM the rock of my own salvation.' Rest in the feeling of being heard by the I AM and let a new song rise in your mouth.
