Pit to Rock: A Psalm 40 Meditation
Psalms 40:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Biblical Context
The psalm describes waiting for the LORD, who hears the cry. He lifts the speaker from a pit and sets their feet on a rock, confirming a steady path.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here, the speaker’s patience is not idle; it is the recognizing of an inner state that awaits its own I AM. When I claim, in consciousness, that the I AM inclines toward me and answers my cry, I am not begging from without but awaken to the truth that I am heard by the very energy I am. The horrible pit and miry clay are the conditions of fear and doubt I have believed as real; yet in imagination I rise, and the mind that was submerged rises with it. The moment the inner assurance is settled—‘I am heard; I am lifted’—the shift occurs: a rock of true footing appears, a solid ground that cannot be moved by circumstance. The establishing of my goings is not a future event but a present alignment: I choose the feeling of being guided, secure, and free to move. As I persist in this inner sight, the outer life follows with steadier steps and new direction, proving that the divine hearing is the action of my own consciousness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and practice the feeling of being heard by the I AM: envision a pit dissolving as you rise, feel your feet land on a rock, and affirm that your path is established. Maintain the felt sense for a few breaths, then walk forward in that stillness.
