The speaker notes that his enemies are lively and strong, and that those who hate him wrongly are multiplying.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within this psalm, the enemies who are lively and strong are not external people but inner states of consciousness I have allowed into my awareness—fear, grievance, the old self-image that says I am assailed. In Neville's psychology, every outer pressure is a mirror of what I previously imagined and still entertain as real: the multiplying hate is the multiplying belief that I am vulnerable. The remedy is to awaken to the I AM, the steadfast awareness that never shifts with appearances. I revise by declaring that those adversaries exist only as temporary movements in consciousness, not as independent power over me. I choose a different thought, a stronger feeling of wholeness, and I feel the scene rearranging itself to reflect that sovereignty. When I insist on the truth of my indwelling strength, the so-called enemies lose their grip, and their activity wanes, replaced by a calm, fearless sense of being. The verse becomes an invitation to turn inward, to reshape the inner weather until the outer world follows.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and revise the scene by stating, I AM the strength that faces every foe. Feel it real as you declare that enemies are only projections of my consciousness and fade into peace.
