Scripture Focus

25I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Psalms 37:25

Biblical Context

The verse states that the righteous are not forsaken. It also promises that their descendants will not beg.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the verse as a statement about your inner life, not a distant history. The righteous are those who live in the I AM, the awareness that God is present as you. To them, God does not abandon; the sense of lack is the product of a mis-tuned state, not of a capricious fate. When the psalmist says I have been young and now old, he is naming a continuous, unbroken confidence in the inner life that governs every moment. Your inner Providence is a constant wind in the sails of your imagination. If you feel bereft, you revise: I am sustained by the I AM; bread is mine as I dwell in that truth. The seed that is not begging bread is the seed of your own state, nourished by faithful attention to God as your own awareness. Imagination, rightly directed, brings forth abundance because the inner ruler is always present. Thus the verse invites you to dwell in the immediacy of God within, and to let your outer scene reflect the health of your inner conviction.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe, and declare I AM as the living presence; revise any sense of lack by mentally stating I am provided for now. Then vividly feel a scene where food, shelter, and guidance are present as your immediate reality.
