Biblical Context
The righteous cry and the inner Lord hears and delivers; in inner nearness to the broken-hearted, the contrite find salvation. Though afflictions arise, trust secures deliverance and preserves the wholeness of the person; ultimate redemption comes to those who trust the inner Lord and remain un-desolated.
Neville's Inner Vision
The psalm is a map of inner life. The 'righteous' are those who align their image with the divine I AM; when they 'cry' it is a sincere desire arising from the state of consciousness, and the 'LORD' that hears is the awareness within you responding to that desire. Nearness to the 'broken heart' and a 'contrite spirit' signals a surrender to higher perception, not a confession of weakness, inviting Gosbill’s greater presence. Afflictions are not external curses but inner movements testing the persistence of your faith; deliverance is a shift in the inner atmosphere—wholeness and protection from within—so that not a bone is broken in your sense of self. 'Evil' represents minds at odds with their true nature, which eventually recede as trust deepens. The final promise—redeeming the soul of the servants—illustrates that, upon unwavering faith, desolation dissolves and a living consciousness of security emerges. Imagination is the tool; by imagining the end, you bring it into being here and now as your reality.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume you are already delivered; feel your entire being held and intact by the I AM, and quietly affirm, 'I am delivered; I am whole; I trust in the Lord.'
