Scripture Focus

5I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
6I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Psalms 3:5-8

Biblical Context

The psalm describes resting in God’s sustaining presence, refusing fear in the face of imagined foes. It affirms that salvation and blessing come from the Lord.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within this psalm, the sleeping and waking are inner states of consciousness. The Lord sustaining me is the I AM within, the awareness that keeps my life intact as I drift and awaken. The ten thousand surrounding me are the many voices of doubt pressing on attention; when I refuse fear, I acknowledge that fear is a passing sensation, not a fixed reality. Arise, O LORD; save me becomes the inner act of turning toward the divine within and letting the assumption of wholeness do the work. The 'enemies' are merely hostile thoughts dissolved by the light of awareness. Salvation belongeth unto the LORD means the solution to every need is the recognition of God within me, not an outside rescue. Thy blessing is upon thy people signals that blessing follows when I align with that inner truth. Selah invites a pause to feel the truth I have assumed as present, a felt sense of the kingdom here now.

Practice This Now

Lie down or sit comfortably; assume the feeling: I am sustained by the I AM. See the encircling fear dissolve as the inner Lord rises within you; awaken refreshed, unafraid, and blessed.
