Biblical Context
Psalm 3:2-8 presents David facing doubt and danger, but declares God as a shield and sustainer, with salvation belonging to the Lord. When the true self awakens to God's presence, rest returns.
Neville's Inner Vision
Your soul is not a crowd of foes, but a state of consciousness. When you say there is no help for me in God, you identify with lack; but the I AM—your present awareness—acts as a shield, a glory, the lifter of your head. The hill on which God heard you is the inner sanctuary of your mind where you cry and your cry is answered in the whisper of stillness. You sleep and awaken because the Lord sustains your state; you are not moved by ten thousand imagined enemies, for they are thoughts in the mind that can be revised by a single revision. Arise, and the divine action occurs as you acknowledge that salvation belongs to the Lord; you do not fight externally but revise internally until I AM is the reality you live in. Your blessing is not a future event but your natural state of being, now, as you recognize the I AM as shield and lifter of your head.
